Transforming Space: The Art of a Custom Display Wall
Art has a way of transforming a space, and when combined with the tranquility of bonsai trees, the effect can be truly captivating. Recently, I embarked on a carpentry project to build a freestanding wall dedicated to showcasing my customers paintings and his cherished bonsai collection. The result? A beautiful and functional display that brings joy to my customers home. Here’s how I did it, along with some tips for anyone considering a similar endeavor.
Designing the Display Wall
Concept and Layout
I started with a sketch that included multiple sections for paintings to be inlaid and, varying sizes and designated spots for the bonsai trees. The layout is mirrored and, was designed for specific paintings, and trees.
Materials
The customer chose a drywall finish that would match the paint of the interior walls of the living room.
Building the Display Wall
Step 1: Constructing the Frame
I began by cutting the wood to size and assembling the frame. To ensure stability, I added extra joists, to have more sturdy mounting points, were I needed them.
Step 2: Electric & Drywall
Next, the electricians added the transformers and wiring for led lighting. When they were done I hung, and finished the drywall.
The Finished Product
After a few days of work, the display wall was finally complete. It stood proudly in the customer’s space, a perfect blend of art and nature. The paintings, framed and vibrant, hung beautifully on the backdrop, while the bonsai trees, arranged on the passthrough shelves, added a dynamic element.
